When we were immersed in the festive atmosphere of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, another great news came from the ISO/TC256 committee. ISO administration issued a list of the newly-approved international standards at 9:00pm, 2nd Oct, in which two nanomaterial standards leaded and proposed by China were included. The two international standards, Determination of silanol group content on the surface of fumed silica -- Reaction gas chromatographic method and Photocatalytic nano titanium dioxide, were voted by the ISO/TC256 committee to be its approved work items. This marks a solid step of China's dominant nanomaterial companies in actively and substantially participating in international standardization and constantly contributing to new standard projects.

Approval file of Determination of silanol group content on the surface of fumed silica

Determination of silanol group content on the surface of fumed silica is leaded by Doctor Wang Yuelin, director of R&D Institute of Yichang Huifu Silicon Material Co., Ltd. This is the third international standard project leaded by Doctor Wang, the former two are ISO18473-1:2015 Nano calcium carbonate for Sealants and ISO 18473-3:2018 Fumed Silica for Silicon Rubber. When discussed the project of ISO 18473-3:2018, experts found that silanol group content greatly affected the quality and applicant properties of fumed silica, yet no authoritative and accurate testing method on this. Doctor Wang sharply reacted and believed that China could make its contribute to it. He organized R&D team of Huifu and sourced support from Sichuan University and Beijing Center for Physical and Chemical Analysis. It took more than one year to finally develop a set of scientific and reliable testing method on silanol groups. And this got a lot recognition from foreign experts when it’s shown on the annual meeting of ISO/TC256 in Oct 2018. And this standard-setting project was approved to start. At meantime, Huifu also initiated the setting-up work of group standard for Determination of silanol group content on the surface of fumed silica, so as to achieve the simultaneous development of international standards and group standards.

The approve marks a great progress in our scientific knowledge and post-treatment for the micro-structure of fumed silica, and this improves international competitive power of China-manufactured fumed silica products.

Yichang Huifu Silicon Material Co., Ltd. leads several international and domestic standards. And more than ten standards, including ISO18473-1:2015 Nano calcium carbonate for sealants and ISO 18473-3:2018 Fumed silica for silicon rubber, are leaded by Doctor Wang Yuelin, director of Huifu R&D Institute.He is the first one who wins the Outstanding Contribution Award of ISO/TC256. In 2019, the group standard, T/FSI003-2016 Silicon tetrachloride for fumed silica, won the first prize of innovative contribution award of CAFSI, and Yichang Huifu Silicon Material Co., Ltd. is the first drafting unit of this group standard.
